If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? people forget that everyone has ingrained biases; they forget their own and the fact that others have them too. i wish we had more peace studies classes in schools. i wish people would learn about these biases.
What makes a person respectable? not being two-faced and sticking to their guns (but usually that means no guns allowed). also, not someone who follows fads and has a new pair of shoes every week based on what other people are wearing. having self-respect and "following the beat of your own drum" i guess is what makes someone respectable in my opinion. also, not committing any human rights violations or anything.. but that should go without saying.
What do you look for in a friend? interesting taste in music or books; a certain level of knowledge in something different - like underwater basket weaving maybe. an easy smile. i like my friends to all have varied interests, but also to be openminded people who like discussing pretty much anything.
What are your hobbies? being outside, playing with my dog, running, writing, reading, music, going to concerts.. reading harry potter, of course.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity? certainly. i intern at a not-for-profit theatre and over the last two summers i've split my time between working at two other not-for-profits, a greenhouse and an agency that works to help the homeless in dc. these things stress me out if i'm not doing something to help.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? it's probably what i would see in the mirror of erised: me with a short haircut that actually fits my face (must be magic) living in new york city and working for a publishing house. writing. first, though, i would like to graduate from high school.
Who is your role model? it sounds snotty but myself. i tell myself, "i've crawled home from worse than this," and every day i force myself to get out of bed and get on with things. i've done it before, i'll do it again, and while simon&garfunkel and virginia woolf keep me going sometimes, it's all a private effort.
What trait most annoys you about other people? you mean a pet peeve? when people don't put things away in the correct place. i am very meticulous. also, people who don't follow through on things they say they will do. it bothers me when people just disregard past conversations or pretend they don't know you when you've been friends for years; when they try to forget something happened that actually did and made a big impact. i like people to be open and direct.
What do you want to do for a living? first i would like to experience being a starving artist, which is my plan come september when i don't get into college and instead move to france. eventually though, something involving travel. a newspaper correspondent maybe, although this week i'd like to combine international business and women's studies.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do? go very very quiet. if i was present for the attack, i would think quickly and probably fumble any type of help i'd try to give, getting scratched and cursed in the process. hopefully we could work together and defeat the attacker.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason? i'd like to think not, although i can be very vindictive and violent. i hold grudges. particularly against deadbeat parents. so it really depends on my mood at the time. at this moment, no - no grudge or dispute is worth not being forgiven.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? i am very ambitious (see my career plans). i am a neat freak in that cluttered way - you know, where i know where everything is and it's all scrubbed clean, but to someone else it looks a mess. i read a lot, or i used to before the system started getting me down, and i know all kinds of words taht i can't really pronounce because i found them in books. i am extremely curious and nosy; i like knowing everything about everyone's business. this ties in with reading - i like to find out about new things. also, i am city-savvy. this means i know how to ride the subway without having a breakdown!
What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities? most people would say my stubbornness, although i usually see this as a positive. i see things in black and white and i rarely budge when i have made up my mind. i have wicked mood swings which mean i can be all happy and dance-y one moment and raging the next. i justify things a lot, like "oh i should take a nap instead of writing that 5000 word paper due in six hours, i need to respect my body." also, i am hypocritical: i say i want to be a peace studies major but i can express extremely violent urges.
Define in your own words the following key traits:
Courage: the ability to wake up every morning and go through your day without avoiding people or tasks you don't like. just living.. that takes a lot of courage. not whining about the state of things but being active about change.
Loyalty: not forgetting someone. always keeping them in your thoughts somehow, and not talking behind someone's back. basically being open about all your feelings.
Intelligence: openmindedness combined with not necessarily equal parts curiosity and knowledge.
Ambition: to desire to, essentially, build a resume of interesting things that show you have truly lived. for example, wanting to raise a child or climb mount everest, even if you only get partway.

Name: meg
Age: 17
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.) i like all the houses, and i could get along with any of them, but probably hufflepuff. sometimes i am more meanspirited than i should be, although it's usually accidental, like something comes out the wrong way, but i don't think that quality meshes well with the image i have of the kind, loyal hufflepuffs.
