Please to be sorting me?

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?

I would want to work in the ministry. I’d love to be on the Wizengamot. I graduated from law school a couple of years ago and we learned quite a bit about the way the legal system works in other cultures. The wizarding legal system blows so many of our practices away with the ability to use things like veritaserum and pensieves. Magic truly transforms the legal system and I think it would be fascinating to be a part of that.

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?

I would definitely like to teach astronomy. It’s a subject I have loved since I was a little girl. There is a certain amount of wonderment and awe I feel when I look into the night sky and spot a constellation I know. Taking groups of students stargazing at midnight and showing them things even magic cannot truly explain would be really satisfying and fun.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?

That's a hard question. On one hand I'm not sure I'd want to risk my own neck in such a way. I'm pretty happy to have the others go off and get killed on their own. On the other hand it is extremely tempting to show off your skills in competition. There is room for eternal glory in my life.

    So...

Yes. I think I would. I’m a pretty competitive person. I love figure things out and the TriWizard Tournament was nothing but one giant puzzle. When I was reading the Goblet of Fire I was constantly yelling at Harry to do something this way or that way. I think around problems and would beat out the competition by having a good solid plan and being a bit more crafty and less concerned with moral fiber. Harry tended to run in guns blazing without thinking things through and he took too much time trying to be fair and save everyone.

Also, the TriWizard Cup would look fantastic in my office.

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?

My form would be an owl. Owls are fierce predators with extremely sharp vision and an acute sense of hearing. They are beautiful, their eyes and plumage can be very striking. I would love to be able to fly. They are usually overlooked when you think about winged predators but they are extremely clever birds and quite efficient hunters. In addition, in the wizarding world people are so used to seeing owls flying about that I would be practically incognito and able to blend in most places.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why?

The answer to this question would have been different a few years ago, but I think today the answer is Draco Malfoy. He is a good student. He wants to be the best at everything he does. He seems to be burdened with a strong sense of duty and loyalty to his family. I can appreciate that. During the first half of the series Draco appeared to be a very one dimensional character. There was nothing much to him but a mean spirit and a desire to emulate his father. In the last two books we really get an idea of what he is going through.

How do I identify with him? Well, I cannot say how I would have reacted in his situation. But my family is extremely important to me and yes, I would lie, steal, cheat and kill to protect them if I truly felt I had to. Much like Draco, I have put aside the things in life I’ve really wanted and developed new dreams that run more along the lines of what my family needs for me to be. I went to law school because it was what I thought I wanted to do. In retrospect, though he never pushed me, it’s what I knew my father wanted me to do. My whole life was shaped in that way. I felt a duty to be better than my peers to prove to my parents I was worth their love and their time. I’m very proud of my family.

I work for the same company my father has worked with forever. I am a mostly gay female working in an environment of extremely conventional co-workers. This company was founded on “traditional family values.” I love my job but I absolutely must keep silent about anything to do with my personal life because it would not only jeopardize my job, but it would place a negative light on my family.

I think that feeling is something Draco could relate to. I know I certainly relate to his fear, his pride, and his sense of duty.

We are both also nearly translucent in our paleness.

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?

I would see myself in an extremely smart business suit with amazing shoes, holding my girlfriend’s hand in my office. I have gotten the promotion I’m working towards. I’m the youngest female state director in my company, with one of the highest salaries in my field. I’ve slowly but surely turned my company around as far as their conventional republican ideologies are concerned. I have a beautiful, but small, home; Two dogs, a Boston Terrier and a Tea Cup Yorkie; and I can play the guitar. I will have achieved all of my current primary ambitions.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?

I would pay off my student loans, buy a house with a big backyard, set up college funds for my nieces and any children I might have, follow my favorite band around the world for a few months, and invest the rest.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?

When I was a kid I wanted to be a rock star. I’ve always loved to sing and I thought there would be nothing better than to have legions of fans, sing and play the guitar and make so much money I could buy whatever I wanted and tour the world staying in fancy hotels. Truthfully, it hasn’t changed all that much. I still think that would be a fantastic life. However, when I was 12 I was diagnosed with a degenerative back disability. My doctor’s indicated that by the time I was 30 I would be in a wheelchair. So, my rock star dreams went down the drain and I replaced them with more realistic ideal careers. A history professor or a lawyer was ideal to me then. I did my history time and law time and ended up in a different career entirely that is ideal for what my physical limits are. (I'm not in wheelchair by the way, actually, you can't even tell I have a problem. I have beaten the system so far and intend to continue to do so. In fact, I’ve started guitar lessons this year)

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?

My spell would be duplicato personus. It would create an exact copy of me with rudimentary knowledge of my life and my mannerisms. It would be able to drive, sit at my desk and shuffle papers around, perform simple tasks, and talk to my co-workers and family without them being too suspicious. I would send it to work for me when I need to sleep in. I would send it on dates that I’m not looking forward to, it would clean my house for me, and go out with that one girl from high school I can’t stand who somehow thinks we are best friends.

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?

I’m afraid of death. I don’t belief in any sort of afterlife and I’ve always been truly afraid of the "what if’s" attached to death. I think my boggart would turn into some symbol of my own mortality. Most likely it would be my own dead body looking back at me or maybe a grim reaper type figure. In either case I would make them blow up like a helium balloon, Aunt Marge style, and float away.

  • What do you look for in a friend?

I look for someone who makes me laugh. I tend to be sarcastic and slightly biting in my humor so I look for people who can appreciate that. They should be able to hold intelligent conversation. Friends should be able to learn things from one another. I like strong personalities and people with slightly devious minds to match my own. It’s important that a friend supports you through life. They should stand beside you in times of need. They should be like-minded. Not necessarily agreeing with your point of view but able to see it and appreciate it. A friend should be someone you can say no to, but rarely have to say no to.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people?

Closed-mindedness is annoying. No matter what your beliefs happen to be I feel like everyone should get a voice to express those beliefs. The world is not colored in black and white, but many shades of grey.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?

1: I’m generous with my time and money. 2: I’m creative. 3: I have an extreme drive to achieve my goals. 4: I’m dedicated. 5: I’m a good cook.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?

1: I fear change. 2: I have a tendency to be a little bit OCD. 3: I don’t relax well. I have trouble letting my guard down. 4: Secretly, I’m an egomaniac. 5: I’m always looking out for number one.

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:

    • Courage:

Courage is acting bravely despite your own fears.

    • Loyalty:

Loyalty is having a firm belief in the goodness and rightness of those causes, people, ideals, etc you chose to put your faith in and holding true to that belief.

    • Intelligence:

Intelligence is being quick on the uptake, learning new ideas and information with some ease. It isn’t necessarily having all the answers, it’s knowing where you can find those answers.

    • Ambition:

Ambition is diligence, drive, and desire to achieve your goals. It is never being satisfied with something that is less than your ultimate goal. It’s the aspiration to achieve personal advancement.
