all naked and drunk on heart and lazy

  • Mood:

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why? The Department of International Magical Cooperation intrigues me, mainly because I've always have a deep-seated interest in the world outside the country I live in, and having a profession in any way involved in familiarizing myself with and learning to cooperate with other cultures and communities would be great fun.

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why? History of Magic, probably - history was always my favorite subject in school and I'm pretty sure the history of the wizarding world is all the more interesting. Plus, I believe we learn from our mistakes and what better way to avoid repetition than to familiarize myself with the past?

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not? I might put my name in, for fun and would of course go through with it if I were selected (I hate backing out of things), but I admit I'd secretly hope not to be selected, if only because I wouldn't want to let my school down. I'd enjoy the puzzle aspect of it, but physically I'm not an excellent sportsman and wouldn't excel in anything requiring speed or physical strength.

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why? I would probably be a coyote, seeing as they represent a dual-sided nature of life, and I've been told I tend to try and see both sides of an issue, because there's always two sides to a story. Coyotes tend to travel in smaller groups and are willing to separate from the pack whenever, which I can relate to. I can fit into general social situations and make friends, but I definitely prefer to maintain my independence.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why? Hermione, most likely. I love learning new things, but can definitely say there are times when I can be a bit of a know-it-all and that can put some people off. The only thing is that I never set out to over-achieve in school, like Hermione did, but now, especially, I spend a lot of my time simply looking for new things to learn about. (I'm also pretty stubborn when I think I'm right.)

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? Me, somewhere else, helping people, doing something, becoming someone. I truly believe my greatest desire is to become someone of worth - I'm certainly not self-loathing or anything, I'm very happy as I am, but when I think about my job and what I do for a living, there's much left to be desired.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it? I'd buy my mom's house, hands down, so she could stay and live in it, mortgage-free. Then, with the remaining amount, I'd split in half most likely, invest one-half so it builds up until I'm retired or something and then the other I would keep. I hope I wouldn't spend it frivolously - and seeing as how I'm much too paranoid with my money, I probably wouldn't. I'd give myself a tiny bit to splurge, but the rest would go into my account to help with bills. Exciting, I know.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now? I wanted to be a writer as a kid, and still do. There's something so fascinating about exploring different sides to life, through the eyes of others, exploring aspects of the world and other cultures and asking questions and trying to answer them. It's definitely an enduring dream.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it? Invisibility has always been something I've desired, mainly because there's that question left hanging about how people act when no one's around. Not just celebrities, but people you know, strangers you pass in the street. It ties into my desire to be a writer and to capture a realistic portrait of someone - I'd love to be able to just people-watch without being intrusive, to see their ticks and habits. I'd call it....Promeneur du soir. Night walker. Even though I'd use it in the day, too - it just sounds like something elusive, sly. And it's French, which is always nice on the tongue.

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus? It would be a tarantula, hands down. Absolutely the most frightening thing in the world. I'd turn it into a rapping penguin, like from Happy Feet. Because what's more funny and non-threatening than a rapping baby penguin?

  • What do you look for in a friend? I don't have to have everything in common with someone - in fact, I much prefer to meet someone who does things I don't do, new things, that I can learn and all that. But there has to be a starting off point, even if its as simple as a similar sense of humor. Or really, any kind of sense of humor. If we trip and fall and can't laugh at ourselves, we'll just go crazy.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people? I hate old-fashioned beliefs in the role a man should play and the role a woman should play. I'm not a crazy, bra-burning feminist - I like for my husband to open the door for me - but there's something very sad about a woman who thinks she's worthless or can't do ___ because she's not a man. And the same goes for men who don't do things because it would be 'gay' or something. This whole gender identity thing is pretty ridiculous. And it seems like I've been running into a LOT of people who act like this, and it's starting to scare me a little.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? I don't get overly emotional, I tend to be a thinker rather than a feeler, so when it comes to evaluating situations (or forming opinions on events, movies, books) I can be pretty unbiased.

I don't let the little things get to me - I grew up with a mother who was very...passionate, you could say. The smallest things would make her angry, so I'm very conscious of my actions and how I react to things, and I try (and mostly succeed) to let the little things - dropping the mail, someone cutting me off at a light, etc. - roll off my shoulders. Life's too short to stress yourself out over stuff that you're not gonna remember a week from now.

I'm a pretty fast learner, whether it be switching from a PC to a Mac, starting a new job, learning how to play a video game (all probably trivial things, but I'm proud of them, heh) I can catch on fairly quickly.

I love my family and would do anything, anything for them.

I'm open to new things - it's kind of like being someone who's aware that we can't possibly be the only planet with living beings on it in the universe, but in my case it's knowing that where I live (the US) isn't the only country in the world, and that the way I live isn't how everyone else lives. I like the fact that we're all so different, and that, really, there can't ever possibly be a day where a single person knows everything there is to know about this world and the people on it. This planet is an endless supply of knowledge and experience and I love that I'm just starting to scratch the surface.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities? The first 'good' quality I put down is a double-edged sword, seeing as how me not getting emotional a lot of the time can come off as being cold, or not allowing me to open up as quickly as others. I'm not a hugger, and tend to be a bit awkward in touchy-feely type situations.

I have the habit of having a short-attention span. I get interested in a specific thing, then a week later it's something else.

Which leads to the whole, 'I know a little about a lot' which means I tend to come off a little know-it-all about certain things.

I'm impatient - sometimes I forget that not everybody learns at the same speed. I was a really fast learner in history, but was really slow in math, for example, so I have to remind myself that just because I caught on to something quickly, doesn't mean that I should get frustrated with someone else for not doing the same. So I tend to get a bit impatient/frustrated. I could never be a teacher, ha.

I have expensive tastes. I like my Mac, my iPhone, etc. but I'd probably get through life a little easier if I wasn't so interested in shiny gadgets.

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:

    • Courage: You know how they say your true self is clear in how you act when no one is around? I think that courage, true courage, is when you do a good deed, when you face your worst fear, when you stand up for yourself, when no one is around to applaud you. You just do it.
    • Loyalty: Loyalty's sticking with your favorite football team even if they have six crappy seasons in a row.
    • Intelligence: Intelligence is knowing what's right/hard and wrong/easy and doing the right thing. It's being smart enough to have the statistics of the death ratio of cigarette smokers in your hands and actually choosing to heed it.
    • Ambition: Ambition's knowing what you want and going for it, no matter what.
