sort me!

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why? I am absolutely fascinated by the ancient world, so I think that I would first continue into some sort of advanced degree, with my doctoral thesis being on the intersection of muggles and the wizarding world in the Ancient Near East. Then I would use that knowledge in a teaching role, with a specific goal to be helping up-and-coming witches and wizards to better understand the history of our interaction with muggles so that we might have a means of better communication when such communication is necessary.
  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why? I would probably love to teach ancient runes. I'm absolutely in love with learning languages, especially ancient ones that use non-Roman characters. I enjoy helping others to learn how to interpret things that they didn't ever imagine they'd be able to understand.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not? Yes, for several reasons. My friends would all be encouraging me, knowing that I have the aptitude to meet the challenges and represent  Hogwarts well. I also would want to prove to those around me that I deserve to be at such a renowned school. Most of all, I would want to prove to myself that I could be put through these incredible tests and come out a more whole person than I was when I began.

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why? I would want to be a hawk. I love the thought of being able to fly, and not just flying, but being able to really soar and glide. As a hawk I could be out over the land or over water. I could make myself blend in when possible, but not need to very often. My sharp eyesight would aid me in seeking out whomever or whatever it is that I might be searching for. In this for I would also be able to live off the land and be independent whenever it is necessary for me to do so.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why? I identify most with Hermione. She's smart and doesn't always realize where her gifts lie. She doesn't always feel accepted by those around her, but once she finds her place, she excels. Once she's made real friends, they are friends for life. She tries her best to be kind and helpful to everyone she meets, but because of her natural intelligence, this often comes off in the wrong way and condescending. However, when people take the time to get to know her, they realize that she does care very deeply about some things other than academics, and that she rarely thinks of herself first.

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? I would see myself surrounded with a family of my own, and several close family friends, pouring over memories of traveling the world together. The places we would have gone together wouldn't always be the big tourist destinations, but rather we would have gone into the difficult places, especially in the Middle East, and worked together with local women and men to better their living situations and make a real impact for good in the world.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it? I would first invest half of the money in something long-term and stable so as to have some security for the future. Then of the remaining half, I would pay off the taxes I owe on it, pay off my school debts, and those of my brother. I would take $100,000 to donate to several of my favorite charities. And if there was anything left after that, I would take a sweet vacation somewhere with a couple of good friends and pay for their airfare and our lodging.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now? As a kid I wanted to be like my mom and teach high school French. That has definitely changed. While my love for languages and helping others learn them has not waned, as of this moment, what I most want to do with my life is be an archaeologist, focusing on the late Bronze Age or Iron Age I of  Ancient Palestine

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it? I would invent a spell that one could only cast on one's self that would make that person instantly fall asleep, and wake up 10 minutes later, rested as if a full 8 hours of sleep had taken place. I would call it simply "dormirais." It would also be taught with a strict warning not to use it more than one time per week, because doing so would cause the recipient of the spell to sleep for a straight 24 hours without the possibility of being woken up.

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus? It would turn into a tidal wave. Though I have never lived by an ocean, I have had an irrational fear of them since I was very young. When I use the counter-spell it would turn into a pile of sand.

  • What do you look for in a friend? Well, I look for the basic things first: of course they have to be nice to me, and we've got to have something in common. I can be acquaintance-level friends with most people I meet. However, for a deep friendship to occur, there has to be openness between us, and a sense of loyalty. We also have to be able to communicate on similar levels, intelligence-wise, or else I get rather frustrated.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people? Being illogical. I have a great amount of tolerance for many things, but lack of age-appropriate logic capabilities has strained several relationships of mine.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? I learn languages fast. I'm creative in both academia and with regards to arts-n-crafts type things. I work hard at most things I do. I'm very driven to succeed with regards to personal goals I set for myself. I love deeply.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities? I sometimes choose success over spending time with my friends. I run away from interpersonal conflict almost 100% of the time. I am impatient with people when they aren't at a similar level of thinking. I have a hard time seeing the big picture and the details at the same time. I don't stay settled in one place for very long.

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:

    • Courage: Knowing who it is that you are, striving to live in to that, and not shying away from any good thing that you can do in your life because it might be too hard or you might not have all the answers.
    • Loyalty: Standing by a person in the hard times as well as the good times. Encouraging them to achieve all the good in their life that they can, and not being afraid of that hindering your relationship.
    • Intelligence: This incorporates not only book smarts, but logic, and the ability to communicate your ideas with others in a way that they can understand, realizing that your gift is not yours to keep, but yours to share.
    • Ambition: The deepest passions of your heart that push you to keep on going when everything around you is saying that it is not possible to do so. It drives you to accumulate for yourself good things that you don't keep for yourself.
