elaborated application. (again)

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
Because I'm extremely interested in politics (and as that's my career goal in actuality), I think I'd like to work for the Ministry, but specifically for the Minister of Magic himself. I think it'd be cool to be the one that dealt with the press, leaking stuff to The Daily Prophet and sort of controlling the media.

But, really, I just think that working for the wizarding world's government would be neat.

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
I'd like to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts, because I think it's important for kids to be aware of the evils out in the world. I think it's interesting to get into the mind of "the other side," and know what they use.. and know what to use against that.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
Yes, I'd put my name in the Goblet, because I'm not afraid of a challenge. If I set my mind to something, I usually get that something accomplished. And if there's some glory in it for the winner, I'm sure as hell going to try to be that winner.

While I find the prospect of being chosen slightly frightening, I think that if I was chosen - that fear would motivate me. Things being difficult doesn't scare me, so.. in short, yes, I would put my name in the Goblet.

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
I would turn into some kind of dog, but more specifically, I imagine that I'd be some kind of hunting dog. Why a dog? They are, like me, fierce friends, loyal to a fault, and easily amused.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why?
I relate most to Hermoine (which is probably why she irritates the bejesus out of me) because, like her, I'm (in the words of Snape) "an insufferable know-it-all." I frequently found myself with the right answers to every question while I was in high school, because I studied often. I always have a book in my hand, and the library is where I spend quite a lot of my time (and usually the first place I search for answers). I was in the top of my class because of my brains, and I'm not afraid to flaunt them, even if it irritates others and gains me the reputation that Snape so eloquently phrased in PoA.

And, as if that's not enough, I find myself to be friends with boys, who more often than not fail to notice that I'm a girl.

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
I would see myself, wearing a nice grey pantsuit, standing on the floor of the Senate. I would be up by the President's podium, ready to pass whatever legislation the speaker wishes to present.

I want to work in politics more than anything else in the entire world, and seeing myself happily in the Chambers would be the most logical thing to see in the Mirror.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
I would pay for my college, buy myself and my parents new cars, pay off my parent's house, start a college fund for my siblings because our parents didn't do that, and then I would invest half of the remainder, and put some in the bank.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
Well, when I was about 8, I wanted to be a mermaid. So, yes that's changed into something realistic. My ideal job now is to be Chief of Staff to a Democratic Senator, or just to work in the Senate.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
I'd like to be able to invent a potion that gives bravery. The person taking it would just have to have a few drops, and it's instant courage, without the promise of luck like the potion Harry won. I would call it "bravoure," or the French word for bravery.

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
It would turn into failure, specifically someone that I love (perhaps my mother, or my best friends) telling me that it's not good enough and that I've failed. It would be them telling me that I won't ever make it in politics, that I'm not good enough, I'm not smart enough, not pretty enough.

When I throw the counter-spell, it turns into my brother with the back of his shirt over his head, as if he were doing his Beavis & Butthead "Cornholio" impression that I love so very much.

  • What do you look for in a friend?
I look for someone who I can trust, that makes me laugh. I like to have some common interests, but if I can talk intelligently or even just being silly, with someone - I'm likely to be friendly toward them. But, to be a close friend, I like someone who isn't afraid to laugh at themselves or at me. I like someone who isn't afraid to tell me that I'm wrong, and expects me to do the same for them. Most of all, though, I love it when my friends and I can laugh, so I think that, coupled with trust and honesty, are the things that I look for most.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people?
Arrogance. I know that I've got a fair amount of it myself, but I find nothing less attractive in the general population than someone who is smug and arrogant without cause.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
    - I'm determined to do what I set my mind to, even if it requires some kind of sacrifice on my end.
    - I'm smart: graduated fifteenth (out of 434) in high school.
    - I'm a good speaker: three years of high school debate taught me the right way to argue.
    - I love to laugh more than just about anything else on the planet.
    - I'm a fierce friend: if/when you mess with my friends, you've got to deal with me and you really, really do not want that.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
    - I'm cocky: I'm smart, beautiful and I know it. Got a problem with that?
    - I often think that rules are below me, that they're there to break.
    - I tend to do the opposite of what I'm asked, just because I can.
    - I argue with authority: what gives them the right to tell me what to do, other than the fact that they're the authority.
    - I fall very fast for a man who can argue with me: I tend to, occasionally, like being put in my place, especially by a smart man.

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:

    • Courage: putting fear aside to accomplish something
    • Loyalty: sticking by someone in the best and worst of times, without question
    • Intelligence: something gained by seeking knowledge, not waiting for it to come to you
    • Ambition: the need to go after something, to make it yours, to say that you've accomplished it
