Edit: Now with some elaboration on the qualities, since they were way short, esp. when I looked at other applications . . . I've been waiting for it to post so I could add :)

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?

I would want to write for the Quibbler, so I could just make up things and try and get people to believe it. I always wanted to write when I was younger, and now, even though I’m majoring in economics, I want to write. I want to speak for the people in the Opinion section. I want to have a byline. I would write for the Quibbler, because I want to have a large amount of freedom in my writing. Mainstream publications edit a lot of things, but I feel like a tabloid would allow me greater freedom. I would probably then break into wizard television.

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?

Herbology. The living Earth is extremely fascinating, and even if it is a tad boring to the average second year. It is very important to understand the world around us so that we may better live within it. If we did not understand our Earth, how can we expect to understand wizards of the past, without automatic cauldrons and potion mixes to rely on? How can we protect ourselves and save ourselves using the appropriate plants? We couldn’t. Herbology is awesome.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?

I would not, unless people from my House asked me to. I have no personal desire to meet my demise in pursuit of glory (that sounds kind of lame), but if others saw me as a good candidate, I would submit myself to the judging of the Goblet. Honestly, what can you lose? Plus, it’s better to regret doing something than regret not doing something.

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?

A horse. My father taught me to draw, and what I always liked to draw was horses. Their curves, lines, power and grace amazed me. Even if it is not the most incognito animangus form (not very sneaky), it is what I would best identify as. Horses remind me of freedom and power.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why?

I think I understand Dumbledore best. I feel like I have an elevated understanding of the world, that I can feel the energy around me in a way that others cannot. This reminds me of how Dumbledore has the foresight that others do not have but still has a sense of humour. He seems very philosophical but still funny, and that reminds me of myself.

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?

Everyone I love. I desire love most in this world. It seems like the only “asset” worth pursuing to me. I pursue other things for enjoyment, like writing, cooking, making music, but loving other people and being loved is such a good feeling. If it were possible for me to see love in the Mirror, that is what I would see.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?

This is difficult. Economically, I would invest a lot of it and spend only some of it at a time. The first thing I would do (after paying taxes), would be to fix up my parents’ house and buy lavish presents of others. I would then proceed to live comfortably and spend my time investing and using my wealth to help other people, and networking with other wealthy people. I would probably also buy a pony.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?

My ideal job as a kid was to grow up and be Rainbow Brite. I also wanted to be a unicorn, or a My Little Pony. Then I wanted to do anything people said women couldn’t do: be president, be an astronaut, etc. This has not changed much, because I am trying to keep true to myself. I still want to save the world (rainbow brite) and make changes. I want to be a big deal. That’s something that’s driving me into writing: we need more women writers. I also would go into politics after popular opinion was gently guided to my side.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?

I would want to invent a spell with the incantation souvenirandum (from the French word for to remember). One puts one’s want to parchment and says it. Instantly, a moving, talking image appears, sort of like a YouTube video. It is the last 15 seconds of whatever one was watching. This way, when something hilarious happens, one can put it down in paper, literally! It would be the Physical Memory Spell.

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?

It would be my mother, drunk, telling me that I was completely worthless, that I made her want to drink. That’s something that would scare me. But the counter-spell would make her fall asleep and snore (my mother snores loudly and funnily. She also sleeps awkwardly with her mouth open).

  • What do you look for in a friend?

Honestly, a little bit of craziness. I can make friends with pretty much anyone, but my close friends are the ones I respect intellectually and are willing to do crazy stuff with me and help me think of crazy things to do.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people?

I hate stupidity, more so ignorance. Pursuing your point no matter what does not make it follow logic. I also hate when people stop being true to themselves and work on making other people happy. Most other people don’t give a shit about you, so why are you trying to please the entire population? It is ignorant of the fact that we are so insignificant in the scheme of existence that we might as well enjoy ourselves rather than care about social constructions.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
    1. Passion - I'm a vegan and I fight for human and animal rights, and I am very political. I get really passionate about it and it really pisses me off when I see people being apathetic, esp. when they are apathetic and then bitch about the way things are because they didn't do anything about it.

    2. Intelligence - People often tell me that I have an interesting insight, and I can be very philosophical and look for deeper meaning.

    3. Compassion - I really care about things . . . there's a reason why this word has "passion" inside it. . . I really feel for others no matter who or where they are and try to understand everyone, even if they are being a bigot. In that case, i try to help them see why what they say makes them look like an idiot.

    4. Creativity - I play oboe (an instrument) and I love to create art, etc. I try to bring my creativity into everything I do to help me give an interesting point of view that otherwise might not come up.

    5. Understanding - I really listen to people. This is definitely one of my best qualities, because it really helps me to form a strong connection to other people.

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
    1. Judging others - I sometimes judge people just 'cause they are walking down the street . . . I assume a lot of things about them (sometimes making up stories with friends for fun). It's a little evil, and kind of bad.

    2. Being to harsh (i.e. truthful) - Sometimes I can be too brutal with what I say to others, and saying without thinking about whether or not the person is ready to hear it. It really sucks when i do this to someone I'm not close enough to, and it esp. hurts them then.

    3. Overexerting myself - Sometimes I try to do everything since I'm trying to save the world. Unfortunately, I can't do everything at once. It's sort of like when I heard "you can do anything" I thought it meant "you have to do everything" and that is something hard to get over.

    4. Being annoying sometimes - I don't know if I am anymore, but I was always interested in what people thought were my bad qualities so I could work on them, and a few years ago, someone said this. I don't think it's very true anymore, but I can't think of many bad things about myself.

    5. Pushing someone too hard (I peer pressure hardcore) - I push people to do things, to try to get them outside their limits (to stretch them). Sometimes I do this too much. The main example is I try to peer pressure people into drinking absurd amounts of alcohol with me . . . and they're like "No! That's a stupid idea!" And I try to stretch them . . . and it's not appreciated, haha.

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:

    • Courage: The ability to do something you know is right even when other instincts/people tell you not to.
    • Loyalty: Being honest and truthful with people and being responsible.
    • Intelligence: Studying and understanding (this is key) history and the cultural context or society is in. It also encompasses a certain amount of wit, and the ability to absorb information quickly.
    • Ambition: Wanting something and deciding that you deserve it.
