If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? The way the whole thing is set up. There's a lot of things wrong with the world, and I think most of the systems out there - politics, religion, education, economics - have some major issues hardwired into them. Obviously it's not possible to fix it all at once, but even just changing the way that people look at things would be a good way to start. Too much of the world is still based off of old ideas that don't work so well with current times.
Who is your favorite Hogwarts teacher? In the movies, Snape, because I really love the way Alan Rickman played him. In the books, McGonagall. I like her way of dealing with things, and the rather subtle and dry sense of humour that crops up every so often. She's strict, but not overbearing, and she's fair to everyone. I also think that she teaches a really interesting class. Plus, she's intelligent, something that's been noticeably lacking in some teachers I've had to deal with.
Who is your favorite character in Harry Potter? I find Draco in the earlier books really interesting, but he's been losing depth recently, especially in OotP, and I wouldn't really consider him a favourite character because of that. I really like the Weasley twins, as I find them fun to read about and like the way they look at life. They're an interesting balance of responsible and irresponsible, and I can identify with their way of dealing with authority. I think they've actually got a quite sensible way of doing things, which is to go along with what works and avoid things that don't work, and of course, have fun while you're at it.
Who is your least favorite character in Harry Potter? Umbridge. She represents everything I hate about society right now: she's overbearing, cruel, strict, high on her own authority, unfair, close-minded, and just generally unlikeable.
What makes a person respectable? How they carry themselves in day to day life. It's hard to respect people who are obviously petty, weak, and stupid. Even if I don't necessarily agree with someone, I'm willing to respect them if they're intelligent and confident.
What is your take on religion? Religion's perfectly fine as long as people don't try to force their viewpoints on others. I'm not religious myself, and doubt I ever will be, as there's too much I find hard to believe in when it comes to organized religion. Believing in stuff is good. Taking everything you believe to be the absolute truth and being completely unable to question it? Not so good. Especially when what you believe is hurtful to the people around you.
What do you think about house elves? I wish Hermione would just SHUT UP about them. Really, that whole SPEW thing is making it rather hard to like her. As a species, I find them interesting and see absolutely nothing wrong in keeping them as long as you don't abuse them more than they want you to. I'd rather like one. I'm messy.
What do you look for in a friend? Someone intelligent and capable of holding their own opinions without relying on others for ideas. I also like my friends to have similar interests and a sense of humour. They need to be able to deal with the fact that I tend to be all over the place, and can be pretty sarcastic and cold when I'm in that sort of mood. I can't stand clingy people and people that sulk all the time.
Would you rather have friends and family or money and success? I'd like to have both, really, but I'd say... Can I have friends and money, instead? I'm not close to any of my extended family and I'm really not interested in fame or all the hard work that success causes. I'd rather keep to myself and be comfortable in my life. If I was forced to pick one or the other, I'd say friends and family, but mostly because I can't imagine my life without the friends I have now.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My inability to concentrate on anything for a long period of time, and therefore my inability to stay motivated. It makes doing things like finishing school (which I didn't) really difficult.
What do you feel is your best quality? Best quality? Hm. Probably my self-confidence/independance. I do things because I want to and because they're my decisions, rather than because other people want me too. This does cause problems, but I think it makes my life a lot better. I don't rely on other people to validate my existance or form my opinions.
What are your hobbies? Writing, playing around online, watching anime, reading manga, petting my cat, sleeping, hanging out with friends. Nothing too amazing, but they're fun.
Do you want to have children? Not without very strange circumstances. I'd make a horrible mother. I'm self-centered and independant, and I'd rather not have to look after someone else for 18 years. Plus, I'd rather spend my money on myself and my friends than clothing and feeding something.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity? A bit of money here and there when I have it. I did volunteer at Animal Aid for a year, looking after cats. That was fun mostly because I like cats, not because I felt I was doing some great good for the world. I find a lot of people who do things for charity to be doing it for themselves anyway. I'll probably volunteer again at some point, but I have neither the time nor the money right now.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do? It depends on what I could do. If there was some way I could help, I'd help, but if there wasn't, I'd probably do my best to find someone who could.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? A nice comfortable life for myself, with freedom to do whatever I want whenever I want. I'd rather not be too tied down, by work or relationships, so I don't want to do something like take over the world. I'd just like a job I enjoy with lots of time to do things for myself and hang out with my friends.
Who is your role model? Scott McNeil (yes, I share one with farohji). He's doing something he really enjoys, and he's a really nice person. He's only famous within the anime/animation community, and the fame hasn't gotten to him at all. He seems to have a very balanced life, which is something I'd like for my own.
What trait most annoys you about other people? Stupidity. People need to stop clinging desperately to trends and ideas without actually thinking about them. Self-forced ignorance is one of the most annoying things on earth, and it's entirely too wide-spread. It's fine to not know everything, but people should at least make something of an effort to learn about the basics and things they like.
What do you want to do for a living? Graphic designer or translator, probably. I refuse to make a solid decision at this point in my life, as I'll probably change my mind sooner or later, but those are both relatively flexible jobs that I have an interest in and a good chance of being successful in.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason? Maybe in a kill-or-be-killed situation, but outside of that I don't see the point. I can't really see myself getting into a situation where I need to torture or kill someone, and I'd rather not have the responsibility of controlling someone else. If I was trying to gain the upperhand in a situation, I'd probably use more legal (and subtle) methods.
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? Hufflepuff. I'm far too impatient, and I'm really not a hard worker.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
- Independance and self-confidence. I suppose I'm also a bit self-centered, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
- Intelligence. It sounds arrogant, but I see no reason to claim otherwise. I'm not a genius, but I'm not average either.
- Open-minded. I'm willing to look at almost anything with an open mind before forming an opinion on it.
- Quick learner. I pick things up really, really quickly, especially when it comes to languages and technology.
- Easy-going. I'm pretty laid-back and easy to get along with, even if it doesn't necessarily come across in my opinions. It takes a lot to get me annoyed at people.
