  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why? I would likely choose to work for the Department of Mysteries, just because...well...we don't really know what they do, but it sounds pretty nifty. Or, I might work in Research and Development (do they have that for wizards?). I think it would be fascinating to try and create new spells (especially useful curses and/or countercurses...and hexes).

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why? Defense against the Dark Arts. Why? It seems to me that DAtDA is somewhat of the synthesizing agent for all the other classes. After all, why do we learn about history, except so we can avoid making similar mistakes in the future? Why should we learn any other spells, if we don't know what situations they might be useful in? What good is healing if there's nothing to heal? DAtDA synthesizes all those things - in any one term, for example, a teacher could easily go over the uses of transfiguration, charms, and herbology in defense against the dark arts - all three are key to defending yourself.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not? Of course. What better chance to test some of the spells I'm trying to create than in an unknown environment? Not that any of them work...but then, there're always the old standards to fall back on, right?

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why? I would be a black wolf. Why? Wolves are quiet, secretive, and resourceful. They're also frightening, and exceptionally fierce in a fight. Fast, quiet, fierce...who wouldn't want to be a wolf?

  • If you could be written into any HP Series book as a new character, which book would it be, and who would your character be? Why did you choose that book/character? I would choose Half Blood Prince, and I would choose to be that member of the Order of the Phoenix that no one really knows. There is always a guy that operates in the background, doing 'all that behind the scenes stuff,' like seeking out Ministry members who were really Death Eaters or something like that...providing vital information...sometimes. As far as Half Blood Prince, that book really had the most concrete plotline involving the Order so far, and I think it would make more sense to have an unknown internal Ministry informant in HBP than in OotP.

  • What is your favorite magical spell/charm? Why? Sectum Sempra. What better way to stop your enemy than to cut swatches in their bodies with your wand? Of course, it would have to be a thought spell...

  • Name three reasons why you would like to be sorted into each House.

    Gryffindor

1)Hopefully it would help me to be braver. Most of the time, I prefer to work from the shadows, or in the background.
2)I definitely value friendship...at least to the point of having the connections.
3)Being out going is a key personality trait. After all, if you're not well connected, how can you get anything done the way you want?

    Ravenclaw

1)It seems to me that most of the research would be done in Ravenclaw. Seriously, is there such a thing as research in the wizarding world?
2)Living in Ravenclaw might give me more ready access to people who would help me to do my work - that is, people who have like-minded goals.
3)Living in the other houses, I don't doubt that those people who are obsessed with perfection, rather than realism, would get a bit annoying.

    Slytherin

1)This house would undoubtedly provide me with the ambition to find my own methods for creating new things.
2)Working in the background, or in the shadows, would not be uncommon in this group of peers, but the group would likely provide me with powerful connections, even if it did not give me many friends.
3)Living in Slytherin would provide me with the inherent secrecy of personality needed to work in the Department of Mysteries.

    Hufflepuff

1)Loyalty is a key trait that builds on trust - we all need that, especially among wizards.
2)Living here might let me dabble in all four houses for help with my work.
3)It would be nice to not feel rushed to finish all the time.

  • You've received your O.W.L results. What are your results? (You have to have failed or done poorly in at least one subject)

Defense Against the Dark Arts: O
    Potions: O
    History of Magic: A
    Divination: T
    Arithmancy: O
    Herbology: P
    Care of Magical Creatures: A
    Transfiguration: O
    Charms: O

  • If you could have any superpower - but only ONE - what would it be? I would very much like to be an animagus. It would definitely make certain things easier...like getting somewhere I wasn't supposed to be so I could get information I needed. Definitely.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why? Severus Snape. Realistically, up until book six, he seemed exceptionally misunderstood. Ambitious, outgoing, overzealous, and, yes, a bit of an ass, at heart, Rowling portrayed him as a misunderstood, generally nice guy. To be honest, there's still a part of me that's holding out hope that killing Dumbledore was a ploy instigated by the Order to fool the Death Eaters. I'd really like to see Snape turn out to be a good guy. Besides...it was he who invented sectum sempra, right?

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised? I would see myself known as the foremost expert in my chosen field. Definitely, I would settle for just being successful, but the Mirror of Erised sees our innermost desires, and my desire is to be known as the foremost expert in my field of choice.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it? I would probably give most of it away. Most of what I gave away, however, would be to establish connections with people I thought might be helpful to have contact with in the future. The part that I did not give away, I would save for future needs, whether that be my own needs, or the needs of my family, or perhaps the need to continue relations with one of my connections.

  • Which HP book is your favorite and why? Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. It was nice to finally see Snape show his true colors, although there was definitely a part of me that really wanted him to be one of the good guys.

  • Which HP book is your least favorite and why? Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. To me, OotP seemed to drag on considerably. Undoubtedly, it was a good book, but Rowling seemed to get lost in the details several times, and that detracted from the quality of the book.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now? My ideal job as a kid was to be an archaeologist. Yes, it has changed - now, I'm aspiring to be a doctor.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it? It would be a spell, and it would be instant relief of pain. Of course, changing the wand motion ever so slightly would probably change it from a charm into a powerful curse that would drop the cursed into a waking state of total painless immobility. How convenient would that be, to be able to experiment on an awake, 'willing' subject?

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus? Darkness - I am deathly afraid of being alone in the pitch blackness. When I cast riddikulus, it would turn into dancing trees. You know, it's odd that trees make so many frightening statues when it's dark...to see them dancing would just be hilarious.

  • What do you look for in a friend? Loyalty. Fierce loyalty, and a determination to see me through to the end of my task, no matter the cost. A willingness to help me, and, definitely, similar goals. Oh, certainly, other acquaintances are useful, too, but not as friends. A friend I have to be able to confide in, to trust - acquaintances simply have to serve a purpose.

  • What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? I would like to open the medical community and the government to use of cannabinoid drugs in medicine. They are a completely unexplored realm of drugs that have potentially phenomenal effects as everything from analgesics to cancer suppressors.

  • What trait most annoys you about other people? Talking. No, seriously...can't everyone just shut the hell up? Shooting off their stupid mouths all the time - can't they see I'm trying to think?

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?

    I am:
    1) Ambitious
    2) Resourceful
    3) Loyal
    4) Devious (when I have to be...and sometimes when I don't)
    5) Intelligent

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?

    I am:

    1) Forward
    2) Sometimes oblivious (isn't it annoying, when the answer is right in front of your face?)
    3) Blindly Trusting
    4) Single Minded
    5) Exceptionally Sarcastic

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:

    • Courage: The willingness to do something you do not want to.
    • Loyalty: Devotion to a cause
    • Intelligence: The ability to find what you need to know
    • Ambition: The willingness to do whatever is necessary to achieve your goals

  • Name: Matthew
  • Age: 21
  • What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.) Uhm...I really don't think I fit into Hufflepuff. I'm just...I really think I would have trouble getting along with "all the rest" - I need a more specific peer group to draw my contacts from.
