If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? I can only do my part, which is trying to raise my consciousness and the collective consciousness, and trying to help people. If I magically changed the world, I think it would mess up everyone’s karma.
What makes a person respectable? What makes a person respectable is no one thing; it is a collection of things, and some people have some respectable traits and not others. A high level of consciousness in a certain area is respectable, although if that person uses that in an unethical way, that person could hardly be called respectable. Basically, to call someone truly respectable, she or he has to respect others, which means treating them as an equal (and of course they have to respect themselves first).
What do you look for in a friend? Someone I can have fun with, who shares my sense of humor, and someone I can trust to be nice to me and like me and not be mean to me behind my back. We don’t have to completely agree politically or religiously, but it helps if we can have meaningful conversations.
What are your hobbies? the arts, reading, writing some things, hiking and caving (although I don’t get to do that very often), thinking, thinking obsessively about astrology, and fantasizing about the imaginary world in my head. It’s kind of like a book except it is ongoing and I haven’t written most of it down, as there’s no real plot. If I could make one out of it, I might some day. I make up many amusing situations involving the characters, and analyze them and their relationships with themselves and each other. I also try to think of what astrology would apply to this one character especially, which is most difficult and complicated.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity? I give about $35 to Second Harvest Food Bank once a year, and would like to give more to others, but I don’t of course have an excessive amount of money. That’s why I want to be a philanthropist some day. I plan to make lots of money and donate it to/ use it for good causes because if you have money you can change the world. You can change the world without money too of course, and I plan to try to do a lot of that too. I donate money to political causes as well, and things as they come up of that nature, like protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge or the African pygmies.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? I just aspire to accomplish some of my many goals. The one thing if I had to make a generalization would be to make a positive impact on the world, to prove my worth by contributing to the species. (Don’t all philosophers want to change the world, though? ;] ) I want to contribute to revolutions.
Who is your role model? I admire various random people for various random reasons, and I admire civil rights activists and freedom fighters. I admire my mother because she is the most sane person I know, she’s strong, and she has taught me a lot. I also admire Bjork because she is like a fairy or a pixie. She in her personality comes close to my anarchist ideal. I think she makes beautiful, affecting music. Betty Dodson is great too; I like her philosophy.
What trait most annoys you about other people? A few things annoy me, mostly arrogance and power-hungriness. I hate (well, hate the behavior as I’m not a hater) tree-choppers (the opposite of tree-huggers), I hate it when people try to oppress and repress other people especially in the name of religion, I hate people who abuse women and don’t like it when people disrespect them, and I hate it when people abuse other people in general. I hate it when people are close-minded, too.
What do you want to do for a living? Everything, in my idealistic way: fashion designer, entrepreneur, artist, philosopher, political activist, and maybe some other things.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do? I would try to help them out, but I wouldn’t want to get severely hurt in the process. I could handle getting hurt as long as they were in more danger than me. Phineas Nigellus says that Slytherins are brave but they choose to save their own necks; I would save my own neck first, but other people are still on the agenda. I don’t really know what I would do. I might turn out to be braver and more noble than I imagine (I hope I would), or I might be less and then feel guilty.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason? I would not unless it was an emergency (I don’t know when that would be, but it’s always possible I guess), because it is quite unethical. However, reading the books I can certainly understand how Harry feels when he tries to use them, and I can’t say I definitely wouldn’t then. Also, it might be necessary to save others.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? intelligence, compassion, an understanding and appreciation of beauty, imagination, individuality
What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities? procrastination, forgetfulness, lack of dependability, I can be opinionated and preachy (and critical of others) at times; I would like to have more and deeper friendships, so being shy and somewhat lacking in social skills makes things difficult for me.
Define in your own words the following key traits:
Courage: doing what is right for you and others in the face of danger and fear
Loyalty: having faith in someone? Paying someone due respect that they give you, that is not giving them less? I dunno. It’s important to have it, but it’s also important for the person to earn it. Although in the case of family or something, there is an element of unconditional love, so it’s complicated.
Intelligence: the ability to discover, understand, communicate, and retain the truth
Ambition: to strive for excellence
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.)
Where did you find out about us? I got a sheet at a party at Borders the night the 6th HP book came out. :]
