If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
One thing? I'm one of those types that want to change many things, like perhaps having less snow? But taking it all somewhat seriously, I'd like to have a bit more open-mindedness in the world. I think that might solve quite a few issues. (Oh dear, is this a veiled "world peace" answer? Haha. I guess the end result would be the same.). It just upsets me that I've met so many people that disregard another opinion because it doesn't fit in with their's. And it's not even individual people. I'm an anthropology major and one of the first things I learned about was ethnocentrism. It's a really useful term to describe the attitude of most groups of people.
What makes a person respectable?
To me, a person isn't respectable if they have a powerful position, authority, blood, or money. A person becomes respectable when they've earned the respect of people through their action. Someone that goes out of their way to help others, stick up for their friend, or just be themselves is a respectable person in my eyes. That, or they manage to get the one-up on me.
What do you look for in a friend?
I look for a few things. First off, they have to be capable of carrying on a conversation. Not just about fashion, or any of the girl-things rumors claim I'm supposed to be interested in, but deep conversations about life, the universe, and everything. (I tend to steal this term from HHGTTG. It just sounds grand.)
Another thing would be sense of humor. I tend to get into sugar-coated flyting matches with close friends, all in the name of good fun. So the ability to snark is incredibly amusing to me. Also, not taking everything seriously is a plus.
This is starting to sound like a classified ad, but I really just tend to stay friends with people that can take a bit of oddness. I'm often classified as 'eccentric', and I'm prone to random statements, ranging from the philosophical, to the utterly vapid.
Also, loyalty and honesty are important to me. Nothing irks me more than mean-spirited backstabbing.
What are your hobbies?
Well, I'm employed at a hobby shop. I would either have too little, or too many. The ones I do in my spare time would include writing, reading, playing videogames (I'm a big fan of Survival Horror and RPGs), or roleplaying. The ones I've picked up due to work include several CCGs (Magic,Anachronism, ect) and some miniatures games.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity?
I wouldn't donate money. I feel money is impersonal in such a situation. It's easy to write a check. I have donated time before, and I would again. I'm not even a big volunteer though, I'm always distracted myself with other things.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
I'd like to learn all that I want to know, and travel the world to do so. I really want to study certain topics, like languages, people, and mythology. I'd like to learn some things that aren't in books, and make a few discoveries before I die. I'd like to meet new people that are completely different than me, and have different foods, and just experience everything in general. I'm greedy like that!
Who is your role model?
I'd like to say I have a role model, but I've yet to find someone. I'd also like to say that I look up to an author, or something like that, but I really don't know anything about them besides the fact they are good at what they do. I suppose the closest thing I /could/ have to a role model is my Mom. She's funny, interesting, and generally understanding.
What trait most annoys you about other people?
What annoys me? People that can never be wrong. Again, I've had a lot of issues with the sort of people. It ranges from things as trivial as, "The teacher failed me because they hate me," to "The girl ran into the teacher, I didn't push her out of the classroom". Generally, I feel that if something happens, I've messed up. For example, I failed the test because I took a gamble and didn't study. I try to realize the consequences of my action so I don't muck them up later, so seeing people that refuse to do such a simple thing as admit they might be wrong annoys me the most.
What do you want to do for a living?
Anthropology, hands down. I tend to get the "What will you do with that" question, and I admit I'm not sure what I'll do myself. I just happen to love the subject. There are a lot of fascinating cultures and customs in the world, and I find that it is a lot of fun to make comparisons between cultures. I also have a penchant for mythology, theology, and foreign language. I would just love to be elsewhere learning about other people.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?
Figure out a way to put the thing out of commission as soon as humanely possible. This may include lunging in blindly to fend it off. I don't care for pain, but for a friend I would certainly take risks.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?
I actually answered a variation of this in a class. Yes, I would. It might make me a horrible person, but if I disliked someone enough, and they managed the threaten me, or tried to cause me or someone I liked harm, I would use one. I would feel badly about it later, but I would certainly cast one of the spells.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
-intelligent-I love to pick up new information, or discuss topics for hours on end. I don't care much about marks, but I do care about what I learn.
-genuine/no facade-I hate pretending to be what I'm not. I present myself to others as I am, and if they choose not to like it, that's okay.
-altruistic-I'll do anything to help a friend, even drop what I'm doing.
-dry wit/snark-So, I'm told I am funny. I really don't have much to say on this one. It all depends on point of view.
-aware-I have a tendency to notice things others miss. Not necessarily sight wise, but analytically and emotionally.
What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
-I don't always express my emotions properly,I keep them in and don't show them
-procrastination-This is a major cause of stress in my life, really.
-When I don't like someone, I actually let them know instead of pretending to be friends.
-I have strange sleeping habits. This tends to frustrate my dormmates if they want to go out early.
Define in your own words the following key traits:
Courage:The strength to actually do something using one's own power, or doing something not everyone would agree with. An excess of courage could unfortunately be foolhardiness.
Loyalty:Standing by a person, but at the same time making sure they don't do something entirely foolish that would harm themselves.
Intelligence:The ability to learn things, and then apply it to new situations. Just memorizing facts out of a book isn't all there is too it.
Ambition:The drive to actually improve oneself or one's lot in life. It can be used for good things or bad things.
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.)-
