Sort me, please!

  1. What HP character do you identify with most and why?
I identify most with Luna Lovegood. She is somebody who is always on the outskirts, but has entire worlds inside her mind. Although it is hard for others to see, Luna is very aware of reality and what is happening in the world around her. She is on the edge, and steps in when necessary, but only when she thinks it is for something truly important or extraordinary. Luna is quiet and soft-spoken, but this should not fool anyone into thinking she is anything less than brilliant. It's a muted spark, but it is there and it is strong, and when the right people see it - the spark burns brighter. I relate so much to this because I have always been quiet. Some might even call me timid. I would say that this is my being wary, observant, and even calculating. I miss bits and pieces of conversation sometimes because I am distracted by the never-ending stream of consciousness in my brain (seriously though, there NO OFF SWITCH). It is hard to pardon in social settings and makes me seem super awkward, but I am not doing it intentionally. I love being around good people who accept me and see past all of this and into my mind. It makes me feel at home.

  2. What one moment in the books was the most meaningful to you?
The one scene in the books that really sticks out to me for some reason, is when our trio meets Remus Lupin for the first time on the Hogwarts Express. He was this mysterious, haggard looking figure who they wondered about but did not particularly question until they saw how he reacted and new how to fend off the aftershock of the dementors. There was more to him than they had initially thought - his mystery grew, and from that scene on he continue to grow as a character and into such an important person in each of their lives. He was never just a marauder, he was never just a teacher, he was never JUST a werewolf. He was so much more and still he hung in the background like a protective shadow. I'm not sure why this means so much to me, but it does. Maybe it's hopeful; that there are maybe people out there like this who will step up but are not warring for attention. Protectors that would rather do just that, than be the center of attention and who really do just focus on the good in others. I want that for the world, but so often it is hard to find. And sometimes even harder to accept. This meant a lot. I am still not exactly sure why, but it's there and it is strong.

  3. What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
I would see freedom of emotion and a world that sees my confusion as knotted up potential. A world that knows it is worth waiting the time it takes to become untangled. A path that lets the tangles loose so that all of the different pieces can be braided easily into something beautiful, if not a little strange. Fulfilling sleep. Calmed anxiety. Love suddenly making sense and being something that I can accept without any sense of uncertainty or doubt. Unquestionable softness.

  4. If you were to become headmaster at Hogwarts, what is one thing you would change about the school or how it operates?
(I thought this said "if you were a hampster" for a second, short lived but hilarious) If I was for some reason (terrifying thought) made headmaster (not hampster) of Hogwarts, I think the one thing I would change is the importance and fluidity of house unity. The two things that really seem to bring the houses together are Quidditch (which is competitive, and not everyone is actively involved) and Hogsmeade (which is limited and freeform enough that it keeps students together in their usual cliques). I'm thinking something like a festival of magic, or music, or anything that isn't so focused on competition and something that is a house point free zone. This sounds kind of lame now that I'm writing it all done. I don't mean for this to be a cheesy thing. Just a free spirited event that erases all the boundaries it can. Low key and joyous.

  5. If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
I would invent a charm that creates an open mind. It would not block any original thoughts or ideas, but it would allow additional room in which to open the mind to a winder perspective. Sort of like hypnosis, but less harsh. A breath of fresh air. Stream of conscious reboot.

  6. You have to venture deep into the Forbidden Forest one night. Pick one Harry Potter character other than Hagrid and one object (muggle or magical), besides your wand, that you'd want with you.
I'm bringing Remus Lupin and an invisibility cloak. Remus is the type of person who will keep his cool in the most dangerous situations, but he will also fight back if the situation calls for it. Having him by my side will be assuring and the invisibility cloak is my fallback in case I freak out and can't be beneficial to the situation, but do not want to altogether run away. Also, I will probably try to wrap Remus up under the cloak as well if we are in that type of terror, but I at least hope that he would think it is more of a kindness than pure stupidity. I really do try my best in the ways that I can X_X

  7. What was your ideal job as a child? What is your ideal job now? Do you think it would be the same in the Wizarding World?
As a child I wanted to be everything! From an astronaut, to marine biologist, equestrian - then later on I wanted to be a musician, a writer, a graphic designer, etc etc. I have always had an overactive imagination, and unfortunately I think sometimes that this gets in my way. I recently had a career change and went from telecommunications to an auto claims rep. This was a huge learning curve, but one of the things that stresses me out most about jobs is getting to that complacent stage where you feel like there is nothing left to learn and noway else to move forward. This is why I made that career change, and it was a great decision for me. I am still learning and I don't think there will be a point in this job where I will ever stop learning. This is more important to me than any kind of promotion, and I like the job itself a lot more than I thought I would; so it all works. The fact that I work with such great people now is also a huge plus. Your coworkers make all the difference sometimes. In the wizarding world I definitely wouldn't be a claims rep. I would want something more creative that involves magic and that would put my analytical skills to use. Something that never gets boring; where there's always something new. Maybe I would open a wand shop (I also love all sorting type things, esp MBTI, Enneagram, Zodiac, etc). I think wands can be that way too. I could research as wands find their witches and wizards. And it would be meaningful - part of what I like about my new job is that I actually get to hear and see the difference I am making and know that I am helping people understand something they were initially very confused about even just a little better. I love that feeling but I've never really been interested in being a teacher. So maybe this would be the right place for me in the wizarding world. I think I like the idea :) Wow, who knew I had so much to write about this answer! Not me!!

  8. What kinds of decisions are the most difficult for you to make?
Anything emotional, honestly, and I haaaaate that. It makes me feel so stupid and inferior that I can't, for some reason, shut down those walls that fly right up whenever I'm asked to make a decision based on feeling. I have trouble with decisions as is (SO INDECISIVE), but when emotions are involved, it's a nightmare. You might have better luck if you ask me what I think, but if you ask me what I feel? Disaster. I don't even know. Even the topic itself is making me ramble. So my answer is deciding what I feel. That is always difficult for me, and I'm not sure why. It makes things weird sometimes (a lot). Ugh.

  9. If you had the opportunity to live forever, under what conditions would you accept? And if you did choose to live forever, what would you do with eternity?
The only way I'd accept living forever is if I could keep my best friend and if there was a promise that there would always be something new to learn. So, basically not thanks. Taking Arwyn's answer to this question, I guess. If I was trapped in eternity, I would spend the time reading, and learning, and exploring different cultures and meeting different people. I would tryout different lives (with my BFF, lol). I would... have a million different careers and see a million different things.

  10. What is one thing you would never want said about you?
I hate it when people underestimate my intelligence :( I like to goof around, and smile and make people laugh. I am nice beyond reason. I give chances. I'm quiet and sometimes I struggle to learn, but I am smart. I never want people just straight up saying I'm stupid. Things take time. Give them a chance before you call it.

  11. Do you believe that moral actions should be judged by the intentions behind them, or by the consequences they create?
I hate this question :) I'm saying both. Moral actions are hard to judge, because you know the person acting on them must be passionate about whatever it is in order to do so. However, there's a difference between having passion and lack of reason. You can never just completely neglect consequence, unless you live in some sort of perfect utopia where nothing you do affects anyone else. I dunno. Morality is important but so is knowing what's right beyond what you believe. Not everyone believes what you believe and this world is a shared space. We all need to keep that in mind.

  12. What do you look for in a friend?
Honestly, I like most people unless they give me a huge reason not to that I can't ignore. I mean, it takes a lot lol. But if I had to say exactly what it is I look for in friends is a shared interest and a connection thru that interest. I love when my friends just really seem to KNOW me and understand what's going on in my head (sometimes even without me having to explain [this is esp comforting]) - because it is always hard for me to explain what's in my head. It's part of why I'm quiet. I also look for a sense of humor and the ability to accept different opinions. I get along well with open minded people who like to learn and who are passionate about the things they do and love. Also weirdos are the best :') Just gotta say that now (I'm a band geek... we're a special brand lol.. love the ppl that don't scare away from that).

  13. What trait most annoys you about other people?
I think it's kind of been hinted at in my application already, but I'm really annoyed by people who ALWAYS have to be right, even if other opinions aren't there just to take that person's down. It's part of why I hate politics. Everyone has to be right. So much about it feels like different opinions aren't allowed, and that's just terrible. I think all opinions are important and deserve to be listened to. You don't have to believe it, or agree with it, but HEAR it. It's important. We are not just one voice.

  14. What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
    1. Creative - I'm creative and tend to think outside the box. Sometimes my ideas are simple, but aren't something anyone else would have just thought up on a whim. I have creative hobbies like painting and writing and music. My brain is always turning ideas around and working things out. It never stops.
    2. Inquisitive - I'm that person that still asks a lot of "but why" questions that we laugh at kids doing. I just want to know! Some things I can't let go :') If a topic is introduced and I'm interested and it starts to teeter off, please no! There are always more questions to ask. Now that I am writing this, maybe it is a weakness as well. I just want to know everything about the things I'm interested in. I can find learning opportunities anywhere.
    3. Funny - I guess I'm funny? Idk. I have a weird sense of humor that even I don't really understand lol but I'm always making my friends laugh, and that always makes me feel good :) Maybe a combination of wit and sarcasm and plain old being random. With just enough reality. *shrug*
    4. Quirky - I'm... kind of an oddball, honestly. But I think this is a good quality and I can definitely have a way of making it an asset (see #3, humor). I always hopes this helps me not be as boring as I think I am sometimes too, but who really knows. I have eclectic tastes and an open mind. Always ready to explore but I like to have a... plan of some kind. But room for a little spontaneity is great. Yadda yadda. QUIRKY.
    5. Intelligent - Idk this one is boring and seems kind of egotistical but it's something I'm proud of and that I work hard at it. I'm smart and a great learner (though it might take me just a little longer).

  15. What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
    1. Anxiety - Soooooooooo much anxiety. I try to play out situations to their fullest extent before they even start and in the process think of so many questions and different possibilities about that non-existent whatever that I wind up talking myself out of something before it even begins. And that's just the start. Anxiety is the worst, ugh.
    2. It takes me time to process - I don't want to call it slow. I haaaaaaaate being called slow. I mean, really I kind of am but give me a break X_X I take time because I want to get things right, and I want to know something in it's entirety before moving forward.
    3. Walls - I have so many walls and I'm not sure why. Mostly emotional walls that I am not sure how to deal with or why they are there, but I would rather remain stoic and quiet when it comes to emotional stuff and I know that bothers people. Maybe it's part of my process time, but who knows. I guess the walls are there to 'protect' me or whatever, but at the same time I think it's hurting everything. Blah.
    4. Distraction/lack of focus - I would not be remotely be surprised if I had adult ADD but I've never been tested and don't want to self diagnose so firmly. But either way. I struggle a lot with focus and staying on track. So many projects and ideas that never get complete. It drives me nuts.
    5. I am clingy with the people that I love most and I know this can be annoying, esp in social settings, but social settings are where I need that comfort most because I really do struggle with social anxiety and think that I am super awkward. Branching off from my friends in unfamiliar settings (unless I have had a LOT to drink, lol ugh) it terrifying. It feels like stepping out into a void that will swallow you whole and trying to save myself from the void by clinging to them is just obnoxious which makes me feel worse. But yeah. I guess this is part of the anxiety, but not a pretty one and I think it counts as another unfortunate quality *cringe*.

  16. Name: Erin

  17. Age: 33

  18. Where did you find out about us? I've been here before but it's been ages and ages. I am excited to get back into the swing of things again.

  19. Do you plan on being active in the communities once you are sorted? Yes! For sure. Partly because I'm stuck working at home now but also because I really just miss this place! I can't wait to be back and join in.
