Sort me!

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? “Ah, that’d be, harsher punishment for parole violators, Stan.” I’m just kidding. Hi, I’m Ash, and if I could change one thing about the world, ridiculous as it sounds, I’d start with a peeve I have about America. I’m mainly fed up with all of the hatred and animosity between liberals and conservatives. Not either side in particular, because I consider myself an independent—just, why must we divide ourselves so much? It looks like we’re headed into another Civil War. I want to make a bumper sticker that’s blue on the left, red on the right, and purple in the middle, with the words “INDEPENDENTS FOR A UNITED AMERICA” written across it in white. Of course, I imagine that might piss some people off…. And congrats if you figured out that my opening quote was from Miss Congeniality. *thumbs up*

What makes a person respectable? I respect people who know their identities and stay true to themselves first, no matter what anybody else thinks of them. I can’t stress enough how important individuality is to me—without it, we’re all mindless and robotic, unable to stand up for ourselves, and may as well be brainwashed or living in a dictatorship. One of my biggest nightmares is of losing my sense of self, my identity, or my memory. And I imagine this’ll become a common theme in my answers, but I think I value a sense of humor above almost anything else.

What do you look for in a friend? I don’t really go looking for new friends; I just meet somebody and make the decision whether I want to be their friend or not. To be my friend, they must, of course, have a good sense of humor. People who don’t laugh (or smile—dear God, I went out with this guy recently who looked like John Belushi, and yet he never smiles or laughs…I considered it false advertising)…they bother me. My friends must be willing to listen to stories, because I like to tell them (anybody who wants to hear about the time I went to Tom Hanks’s house, or the time I walked into a restaurant with a 90-minute wait and told them I had Steven Spielberg with me…you know where to find me). They must be willing to do crazy stupid things at random, like driving backwards through a McDonald’s drive-thru just for fun. My best friends, who are in a category apart from all others…they’re like blood to me. We trust each other with our lives. My best friends and I are there for each other to help out in the bad times, to enjoy the good times, to give advice, to stand up for one another if necessary…. Basically, they’re the first ones you call if your boyfriend dumps you, and they’re the first ones you call when you win the lottery. Through good and bad.

What are your hobbies? In high school, it was all about the drama—the class, the club, the plays. And TV production. I really love to act. I don’t have that available to me anymore, because drama’s not my major (I’m going for journalism), but as soon as my friends and I get our hands on a camera, we’ll have some projects in the works. So…acting is a big one. My soul craves it. Oh, and I like writing, too (that’s why I’m majoring in journalism). And because there is a lack of activities in my town, my friends and I have to entertain ourselves, most commonly by going to Wal-Mart. I carry that age-old list of “69 Fun Things to Do in a Super Wal-Mart!” around in my purse. And oh, do we use it. I have photo albums full of pictures from various Wal-Marts. Basically, I can have fun anywhere. And then, a lot of my time is devoted to LiveJournal; at the risk of sounding really cheesy, if I’m not reading it or writing it, I’m living the stories that eventually I will be putting in it; I suppose I’m a bit obsessed.

Have or would you give time and money to a charity? I have not, but only because I don’t often have money to spare. But I certainly would, if I were able.

What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish? Either publish a book, or star in a Broadway production of Les Miserables as Eponine. Or star in any Broadway production. Or movie. Really, if I could do any one of those things, I think I’d be set.

Who is your role model? There are several people (some real, some…not so real) who could claim this title. When I was in high school, obviously it was Ferris Bueller. No other teen anywhere, ever, in my opinion, makes a better role model for high school students. The kid knows his stuff. Then I left high school, joined the (part-time) working world, and it became Peter from Office Space, because he’s like the Ferris Bueller for “adults”. As for real-life idols, well, those’d be Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Barry, and JKR. Of course, I’d say that I myself am my own most important role model. Because, really, while I admire all of these individuals, I follow my own head and heart; I don’t do things just because I think somebody else would.

What trait most annoys you about other people? I’m always really irritated by those people who will tell you that they’re boring and have never done anything in their lives. I like to say you could make a movie about anybody’s life; but you yourself must first believe you’re interesting before anyone else will! I also cannot stand hypocrisy or ignorance.

What do you want to do for a living? It took me forever to make the decision, but I finally decided that acting is mainly talent, so why go to school for it? I’m getting my degree in journalism, so I can get a good, steady job, and then try out for roles on the side; and if I make it big acting, well then that’d be swell; if not, I’ve got the degree to do something else. What I love, though, is that auditions are always there. The opportunity is always available.

If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world)
beast), what would you do? Okay, first of all…you just don’t mess with my friends. You don’t. I would definitely fight. What else am I going to do, sit there and watch? Turn around and run? No; you fight for your friends.

Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason? You know, I most admire the superheroes (my favorite being Superman) who never kill the bad guys, because I think that shows a good heart…but I would say that if I didn’t have a choice (if somebody was going to die if I didn’t use it, for example), then, yes, I’d say I would have to.

What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities? In no particular order, I guess: 1. My sense of humor—I think it helps get me through a lot, and it lightens almost every situation. I’m able to make almost anyone laugh. I think you need a sense of humor to get by in this world. 2. My creativity—it goes along with the sense of humor; it makes nearly any situation more interesting. (Take, for example, the time my friend and I ended up in the wrong hospital by accident, and, instead of realizing this, I immediately reached the conclusion that we must have ended up in a different dimension.) 3. My stubbornness—what can I say? It helps me win arguments. I don’t like to be wrong. 4. I hold firmly to my belief in true love, and I love someone very strongly and passionately. I consider this a good thing, regardless of what others might think. 5. I typically give very good advice to those who seek it.

What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities? Ironically, some of these may coincide with my best qualities…. 1. Probably…my stubbornness. If I’m honest, I guess it causes as many problems as it does good. :-P 2. I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve sometimes. Everybody knows what I’m thinking and how I’m feeling. That probably goes along with 3. I’m a bit self-centered. I’m not so good at listening, but quite good at talking (hence my long-winded responses here). 4. My belief in true love. Haha. Like being stubborn, I think it probably hinders me very often. But that won’t make me change how I feel. 5. I can be quick to judge people, or quick to grow irritated at little things, like people going through my line at work who take forever trying to decide what they want to eat, while I stand there in the heat holding their plate which, after hundreds of others, is starting to get really heavy….

Define in your own words the following key traits:

Courage: Courage is about realizing what needs to be done and doing it, despite what anyone else thinks of you, and despite what even you yourself may feel. It is not about whether or not you have fears; it is what you do in the face of them. It’s protecting the weaker people who don’t know how or can’t stand up for themselves. It’s about holding to your beliefs to the death. It’s the first and foremost main quality of a leader.

Loyalty: Loyalty means an attachment to somebody or something; it is an unbreakable bond. It means never betraying your friends or your cause, and never cheating on your boyfriend.

Intelligence: Intelligence is your ability (or lack, thereof) to interpret and use information. It goes along with wit, and there are different forms of it.

Ambition: Ambition is your drive to get something that you want. It is something that you must give yourself. You determine whether you want to get good grades or bad, and how hard you’re willing to work for them. Among other things. That was the first example that came to mind.

Name: Ash.
Age: 20.
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for
those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.)
Where did you find out about us? I discovered this place on Cleolinda’s friends list.
