Second try - posted to my own journal accidentally, first time!
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
I would have better relations between different cultures - bethat religious, geographical, colour, political affiliation or mage/muggle. We can ill afford to be fighting amongst ourselves when so much can be achieved by working together - not that there won't be differences, but we don't need to fall out over them.

What makes a person respectable?
Their respect for others, their treatment of animals and nature, whether they pratcice what they preach, whether they have integrity, (in a position of responsibility) whether they can hold a crowd/classroom etc. to attention without shouting or over the top stunts. They should not run at the first sign of trouble, but face up to it, no matter the cost.

What do you look for in a friend?
Similar interests, open to unusual situations, would be able to put up with me waterspouting/panicking (since I have anxiety issues) but wouldn't be my doormat!crutch (tough love and all that) I look for a willing and open-minded person who is willing to accept me - and others, by extension - as they are. Someone who can understand the depth and strength of my beliefs and convictions, though they need not share those convictions.

What are your hobbies?
Music - I play trumpet (Associated Board Grade 7), descant & treble recorder, keyboard/piano and I sing (mezzo soprano, but a wide variety of music). I collect "GirlsOwn" books - girls' school stories from the 20s-70s, mainly - but especially the Chalet School series by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer. Harry Potter (naturally). Chalet School fanfiction. Harry Potter fanfiction (gen; het, most pairings except Draco/Hermione for some reason, all ratings). Listening to music - my collection is eclectic, though major players are Eva Cassidy, Michael W Smith (Christian Contemporary Music [=CCM]), Steven Curtis Chapman (CCM), West End/Broadway songs, worship CDs, classical (usually soundtracks like Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings). Disney and Musicals (all time favourites are Lion King and SOund of Music, respectively). I love doing jugsaws and puzzles. I adore candles - my flatmates are convinced I'll burn the place down one of these days! I am obsessive about Winnie the Pooh. If I'm feeling really bad, I pick up Mills & Boon style chicklit. Um...yeh. That's a looong list!

Have or would you give time and money to a charity?
I give regularly at church and a portion of that goes to charity. I buy lots of presents through the Traidcraft catalogue - everything in it is made by co-operatives around the world where people get a fair wage and the money goes back to them (it's the trading branch of Tear Fund). I'm involved in Make Poverty History this year. I go envelope dropping during Christian Aid Week. I am also considering an internship in the advocacy offices of Christian Solidarity Worldwide and when I'm back at my parents', I help out at a charity which provides basic bedding/pots and pans etc. to those newly in council housing *the charity is called Starter Packs Glasgow). I also give to The Leprosy Mission.

What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
At the moment, to complete my degree!!! (finals start next week)

Who is your role model?
In the books or in RL? Books = Hannah Abbott and Susan Bones - they both seem nice, dependable girls who don't give up at the first sign of trouble. I'd like to be as driven as Hermione, but not quite to such a level of distraction. I'm not quite such a martyr to the cause!
In real life = my friend Heather (dozydormouse) who has anxiety issues, and yet she manages to hold down a full time job in the Civil Service. I admire her resolve and her realism. Paula Radcliffe, too - the Olympics were a compelte disaster for her, and yet she returned to the London marathon this year and kept on going.

What trait most annoys you about other people?
When folks say "I know how you're feeling" when you know they have no idea - because they've never had it and neither has anyone really close to them (read parents/children/partners only) so they CANNOT know. I prefer just to know that peopl are there alongside me, that they will listen, and they will give me a hug at the end.

What do you want to do for a living?
(sounds really corny) I want to help people who need to be helped.
(1) One possibility (mentioned above) is to work with Christian Solidarity Worldwide, which works to remove Christians from oppressive situations (usually where they're in jail either for trumped up charges or in countries where Christianity is prohibited). I believe everyone should have freedom to express their opinions, but that that should not impose on another. Example: I happen to be personally pro-life (and yes, I have been in the position of making a decision) BUT I am generally pro-choice. My own beliefs and choices should never stop another person exercising their right to autonomy (besides which, my gran remembers being in hospital when a girl was brought in from a backstreet job gone wrong - the girl screamed for six hours before she died).
(2) Another real possibility is to work in the Civil Service - I'd be best placed either in DfID (department for international development) or in the Home Office working with Asylum cases. But, given that most departments are currently cutting back, I'll go wherever there are vacancies and then I can move internally. In any case, what's the use in having a life goal if you make it at 25?

If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?
I tend to keep calm in a crisis, and have my anxiety/panic afterwards. So again, two scenarios: am I with said friend or not?
(1) YES. I'd get in front of my friend whatever - if they've been attacked in some way, I'm presuming theyy've been hurt, whether physucal or even the shock of being grabbed/suddenly facing a cheesed-off manticore (okay, extreme example there). I think and act on instinct, and having a flypaper memory helps big time. A few well-aimed hexes covering friend's getaway to get help OR until threat is dispersed and we can make good our escape. If I found myself wandless/found I was a squib/in a magic-dampening field, drag friend out of danger, tend to injury ASAP (out of date but still good First Aid skills from my Girl Guiding/Scouting days) and get to the nearest help. Let's say it's an assault - well, I can't live in East London and not have decent self-defence at my beck and call (and yes, I have rendered one man infertile -- cue crossing of legs!). But only if the situation is winnable - no point playing the martyr if there's six of them and two of you, get the hell out of there rather than cause some pain and give the others more reason to harm you!
(2) NO. If it came to assault, been there, done that. So I can listen and be there for said friend. I wouldn't go out on a suicide/revenge mission - I can be of best use to my friend being there for my friend. ANimals wise - I don't know what I could do...but I'd stick by them whatever.

Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?
I'd like to be able to say "no", but I've never been in a situation where I could say for sure I turned away from the Unforgivables' equivalent. Breaking them down: I couldn't torture someone...couldn't enjoy causing pain without it being purely righteous enjoyment (as Bellatrix explained to Harry in OOTP). I don't think I have it in me to kill, so AK is out of the window. Imperius? To have someone at your every command? I'm not sure...I mean, I don't think so, but...maybe.

What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
-I am a good listener
-I give 100% to anything I commit to, and if I can't give 100% to it, I don't commit to it.
-I don't have a problem submitting to leadership or fading into the background - in fact, I'm happier there.
-I am a natural teacher (though I don't have the patience for it long term).
-I grasp seemingly difficult concepts with relative ease, and if I'm told something and not why, I follow the "don't feed the bears" rule - there's a reason you're being told to do something.

What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
-I am scatty and disorganised.
-I tend to be overly emotive and sensitive.
-I am impulsive when it comes to major decisions and stubborn once they are made.
-I am a perfectionist to the point of distraction.
-Complete and total technophobe!

Define in your own words the following key traits:

The power, quality and confidence to face adversity (be it danger, fear, persecution, pain).

Allegiance, faithfulness.

Capacity for understanding; ability to perceive and comprehend meaning (aka cleverness, rationality/guided by reason).

Drive; strong desire for success, achievement, recognition or distinction - acceptance, even. Often requires extraordnary ability and effort.

Sorry -- just realised my A-Level English coming through a lot there!!

Name: Ciorstaidh (really Kirsty)

Age: 21

What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.)

Where did you find out about us?
Looking on euphrosyna's profile, one of her icons linked here (she's a Puff).

Just realised how mega-long this is...ah well, all the better for sorting me, right?

Hmm, so what am I? Go on, now I'm curious!!
