Welcome to Term XLI

Hello, everyone! I'm Andie (tralfamadore), and I'd like to take a minute to introduce myself and welcome you to the start of our new term. I'm very excited to be serving as your Voting Manager for these next few months. I've held this position a few times before, and it's great to be back once again! I've always thought this community operates smoothly as the first stop for prospective members. That said, I welcome any questions or suggestions you may have. Please don't hesitate to reach out through any of the methods listed below:

EMAIL: votingmod@gmail.com
PRIVATE MESSAGE: votingmod
SUGGESTIONS POST: contact here

Additionally, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you of the rules and resources we have here at platform_934. If it's been a while since you've looked them over, please do take a few moments to refresh your knowledge. They answer many of the common questions associated with this community, and provide you with excellent tips and tricks to make your participation here much more straightforward and enjoyable:

PLATFORM 9 3/4 FAQ: located here
SORTING RULES: located here
TOP SORTER LEVELS: located here
SORTING CHEAT SHEETS: located here

As an important note: voting will close at 9:00 PM CDT on Sunday (2:00 AM UTC Monday), which is one hour earlier than last term. (Sorry loves, I'm old.) I'll be sure to reiterate this point for every week's sorting, of course. This may be subject to change if I find it isn't working for the community, but I'll give you plenty of notice and leeway in the readjustment.

I'd also like to make special note of the two rules implemented a few terms back, which are still in effect:

• All votes must be placed in the subject line of your comment. Failure to do so will result in receiving zero points for your vote.
• Elaborated votes are worth five points. In order to receive these points, you must also sign your vote with either a sigtag or a HIH-specific icon.

Looking forward to this upcoming term! Please let me know if there's anything you need and tell all your friends.

Hello, everyone!

Unfortunately, there are currently zero applications in the queue. If any are received within the next twenty-four hours or so, I'll send them through for voting. Otherwise, this will be a quiet week for platform_934.

If you have any friends who might like to join, now would be a great time to encourage them to get their applications in. (Don't forget that you will earn referral points for your house for every applicant who mentions you by username!) Please note that all received applications must comply with the sorting rules in order to be posted. If you have any questions about these or anything else, don't hesitate to contact me.

Hello, everyone! There is one new applicant to sort this week. For your convenience, I have linked to your individual house threads below. If you would like a reminder of the sorting rules, you can refresh yourself here. Please remember that failure to abide by these rules may result in your vote not being counted, or other consequences as needed.

Also please remember that each week's voting ends at 9:00 PM CDT Sunday evening (2:00 AM UTC Monday morning). You must have your votes cast by then, in order for them to count.

One final note, in case you've missed it. We have two new rules implemented a few terms ago, which are still in effect:

• Elaborated votes are worth five points. In order to receive these points, you must also sign your vote with either a sigtag or a HIH-specific icon.

PS: Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the "Sorting Question of the Week" last week. I loved reading your discussions! A little something has been deposited into the vaults of everyone who has participated in discussion over the past two weeks.

SORTING QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Do you feel that Hogwarts sorts too early? What would be the benefits and drawbacks of postponing sorting until later in a student's academic career? (And feel free to discuss responses with your fellow members.)

Thank you to j_okay, bergeronprocess, and sn0w, who all participated in last week's question. I will have something deposited into your vaults very soon. (Apologies that it hasn't already happened, but I'm currently out of the country and posting on the fly.)

SORTING QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Both Gryffindor and Hufflepuff have been defined by their practicality for our "Sorting Cheat Sheet." How might this manifest differently in the different houses? What about Ravenclaw and Slytherin practicality? What do you imagine that looks like? Feel free to discuss in the comments below. Discussion participants may earn special surprises*~. (And feel free to discuss responses with your fellow members.)

Thank you to storminmay and monkiainen, who both participated in last week's question. Check your vaults for a little something from me. ;]
