Sort Me

  1. What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
It’s a toss-up between an elementary school teacher and an Unspeakable.
I don’t know if they have wizarding elementary schools, but if they do I would want to teach at one. Currently I teach ESL and it’s almost my ideal job. I love working with the few young children I have. However, most of my students are business professionals and not as fun. I love the feeling I get when the child finally understands what I’m trying to teach them. It gives me such a proud feeling of accomplishment.
On the other hand, I would also like to be an Unspeakable. I think they’re very mysterious and we really don’t know much about them. However, I want in on whatever they are working on. Think of the think I would see and the things I could do. I could decipher ancient artifacts and find out all their secrets. I could finally find out the true purpose of the Veil. I could even use some of these items to make a profit for myself. If so it would be a perfect opportunity because I don’t think anyone knows who is an Unspeakable. It could be possible that the Unspeakables don’t even know who their coworkers are. As long as I kept it on the down low there would be no consequences.
  2. You have to venture deep into the Forbidden Forest one night. Pick one Harry Potter character other than Hagrid and one object (muggle or magical), besides your wand, that you'd want with you.
I would take Professor Snape. He’s a dangerous man. He would have to be to have survived with the Death Eaters as long as he did. Him being a spy for them makes me think that he would do anything to survive even kill. That would make me feel safe while I was in the forest because even though I know he’s dangerous I know he will protect me. I wouldn’t be afraid of any creatures in the forest killing me. Also, if we got lost he would be great to have because he can tell me what plants are edible if we had to spend the night in the forest *shiver*.
I have thought about what item I would take and really there is no important item. Pretty much any item I would need I could find an equivalent spell, charm, or hex. I would never go anywhere without my wand so I’m going to assume I have it. I can cast a warming charm if I’m cold. I can cast a point me spell if I’m lost or a cutting hex if I’m in danger. Lumos would take care of the darkness and Incendio would allow me to make a fire. I think that covers everything. So, in the end, I would bring a book. That way if we did get lost I would have something to entertain me while I’m waiting for my edible plants to cook.
If, however, Snape got annoyed with me for using a music charm that repeated “The Song That Never Ends” and threw my wand away somewhere then I would bring matches. That would give me the most help. I could make a torch to light my way and possibly scare away creature. I could also build a fire to cook with and keep warm.
  3. If you had the opportunity to live forever, but your family and friends did not, what would you choose? And if you did choose to live forever, what would you do with eternity?
That depends on a couple things.
    Will I still age? I don’t want to look like I’m 600.
Will I be able to kill myself if I get bored and want to explore the afterlife?
If the answer to the first question is no and the answer to the second question is yes then I would choose to live forever. It’s too good of an opportunity to pass up. Think of all the things I could do and all the things I could learn. I could do everything I ever wanted to do. I could be a doctor, a teacher, a CIA agent – anything. I could learn everything there is to know. I could become rich! I would be the best historian as well.
I would feel bad about outliving my daughter, but I would have had many years with her so I think I would be okay eventually. Plus I would still have her children. The rest of my family is older than me so I doubt they will outlive me even if I wasn’t immortal. All but my brother. He’s four years younger, but that’s not a very big difference so we’ll probably die around the same time anyways.
  4. If you could travel back in time to one point, when and where would you go? Why?
It’s a tie between two different places. I can’t decide because I want to go to each of them for completely different reasons.
The first time I would go to would be the day before the Mega Millions (Major US lottery game) drawing that happened a couple months ago when the jackpot was something like over $900 million and buy the winning ticket. Even after taxes it would still be over $600 million probably. I’m sure Governor Snyder would love me for giving my state so much money. Maybe he would give me one wish and we could finally get a new governor! There are so many things I could do with that money. I would buy a house for myself and my daughter, buy a house for my brother and one for my parents. Then, I’d buy a car for each of us of our choosing (not my daughter though she’s only 7 weeks and can’t drive yet…), maybe I’d buy and island lol. I’d also go get my PhD and put some of the winnings in a savings account and let it collect interest because I don’t understand the stock market. However, I would have bought some stock in Facebook. Then, I would donate some to my favorite charities.
The other time period I would want to go would be Ancient Egypt or Greece. I seem to have a thing for ancient architecture. I would love to go see the pyramid, sphinx, or the temples built for the Gods. I think I could learn so much about that time period if I could talk to the locals. It would be an amazing experience for me.
  5. What HP character do you identify with most and why?
I’m not really sure, but I think a mix of Luna and Neville during his time of transformation. You know where he went from a timid little boy to a BAMF lol.
I think I’m like Luna because she always seems kind of ditzy or not really all there. She talks about odd things and doesn’t seem to be paying attention to anything that is going on around her. However, I think it’s a mask. I think she’s completely aware of what’s going on, but she just acts like she doesn’t. There had to be a reason why she was sorted in to Ravenclaw after all. I can’t imagine Ravenclaw accepting a lot of airheads…no offense Luna. I’m a lot like that. People usually think I’m totally oblivious to the people and happenings that are going on around me, but I’m not. I just act that way. Maybe because I’m a little insecure maybe because that’s how I got through life when I was younger or maybe because I’m afraid of being hurt I don’t know, but it’s worked for me so far. However, I pay more attention that those people think. They’d be surprised all the blackmail material I have on them *insert evil laugh here*.
Neville during his character transformation because I feel like that is happening to me now. I feel like I’m finally figuring out who I am. I’m settling into my body and my personality. I’m breaking away from the pack and finding my own way. I’m discovering things about myself that I never realized before. I’m discovering my own sets of beliefs and views on how I think the world should work. It’s a little unsettling, but I can’t wait until it’s over and I can see the final product.
  6. What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
Recognition. I want to be recognized for doing something – anything really. I think this is because for the last year or so I’ve felt really underappreciated in my personal life. I feel like I keep doing things, but no one notices or cares. So, it would make me feel awesome if I could get some recognition.
  7. Do you believe that moral actions should be judged by the intentions behind them, or by the consequences they create?
I believe that I cannot answer this question. This has to be case by case, in my opinion. There are so many factors to take in to consideration. What was the person intending? What were the consequences? Was the person aware of those consequences? Who and how many did those consequences affect and to what extent.
I believe this question is trying to place people in to black or white categories which just can’t be done. There is more to life than just black and white.
  8. What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
My ideal job when I was a child was a veterinarian, and yes, it has changed. I realized that I don’t think I could handle seeing abused animals come in. I couldn’t handle killing animals or having animals die on me. I also couldn’t handle having to tell some little kid that their pet died.
Now, my ideal job is to be an elementary school teacher, preferably for first or second grade. I enjoy working with little kids. They’re so energetic and eager to learn. By the time they hit middle school they are going through that awkward change where everything about them is changing and they think they know everything. By high school a lot of kids just don’t care anymore. However, that hasn’t happened yet with 7 and 8 year olds. I love that they are so ready to be taught. Like I said in question one it gives me a great sense of accomplishment to see the proverbial “light bulb” turn on.
  9. If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
I would create a potion that would freeze the aging of a person’s outer body. I know there’s already the Philosopher’s Stone that makes you immortal, but this is different. This potion would just allow you to keep the appearance of being young until you die. Your internal body (ie. Organs and such) would still age as normal.
I would use it for a few different things. First, I would use it myself. I don’t want to look old. So, I would use it to keep myself looking young. Second, I would use it to make money. I’m sure this would be a popular product if it worked correctly. A lot of people don’t want to look old. I’m confident they would be willing to buy this potion every month to prevent that. Next, I would use it for recognition. Because I’m sure this potion would be popular and because I know people don’t want to age physically, I know that people would remember me because of how I took care of this problem for them. Finally, I would use it for others. This would be a good tool if someone had a disease where their physical body kept deteriorating. For instance, if a person had leprosy. A person with leprosy could take this potion to protect their body from the deformation.
The application would be easy. Just take one bottle of the potion and bathe with it. Apply it to your whole body once a month and you will be set. It wouldn’t be permanent, but something you would have to reapply every month. There are a few reasons I wouldn’t make it permanent. First, due to the popularity of this potion people would continue to buy it. So, if I made it so it had to be reapplied I would make more money. Second, there may be some reason why, down the line, you want to start aging again. For instance, with the physically deformity I mentioned earlier. What if one day they find a treatment or cure to the condition? The person with the deformity could stop taking the potion and their body would begin aging again. Next, they could go get the cure that would stop their body from deforming. Then, they could get reconstruction surgery or a spell or whatever and fix whatever damage had already been done. Finally, if they so choose, they could begin taking the potion again.
I would call it Esse Forma. That’s what Google Translate told me the Latin translation for Maintain Beauty was. A lot of things in the wizarding world are in Latin so I chose to use Latin as well.
  10. If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
This is probably the most difficult question for me…weird. There’s not a lot that I’m scared of, to be honest. The one thing I can think of is clowns. Clowns are scary. However, I’m not so scared of them that I won’t be by them. They just creep me out so I would prefer not being around them thank you very much.
If I were to cast a Riddikulus on the clown it would probably turn in to a really old woman with horrible makeup. Like really bright, over-done make up. I’ve seen ladies like that before and I can’t help but laugh.
  11. What do you look for in a friend?
I look for a ot of things. I want someone I can have an intelligent conversation with. I want someone who shares some of my interests. Someone who I can relate to and have things in common with. I want someone who has the same work ethic as I do. I also want some who will laugh with and at me (in a nice way lol), and that I can do the same with. I want someone I can trust to tell my fears, uncertainties, insecurities, and secrets to, and someone who will trust me with the same information.
  12. What trait most annoys you about other people?
Hypocrisy annoys me the most about people, and the sad thing is that a lot of people are hypocrites. I’m sure I have also been a hypocrite at least once.
You can’t just say one thing and then do the opposite. You have to stick with what you say, If you don’t, how can I trust you? I can’t – end of story,
  13. What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
Determination – When I see a problem or I have a goal I want to reach I become very determined to figure it out or reach it I almost because obsessed with doing just that. However, because of my determination I can easily solve my problems and reach my goals. I don’t ever give up when the going gets rough.
Stubbornness – I think my determination and my stubbornness feed off one another. I hate when people tell me I can’t do something. So, when they do I and determined to prove them wrong and too stubborn to admit that they may be right. However, that stubbornness has led me to amazing results. I have found new things I enjoyed doing. I have done things I thought I would never do and felt and amazing sense of accomplishment because of this.
Logic – Logic kind of keeps me afloat I guess. I am super logical and that helps me solve problems because I know there is an answer. It’s just not logical for a problem to not have a solution. So, using my determination and stubborn I continue to look for the answer. It often helps my family when they have a problem they see no solution too.
Optimism – I always try to look on the bright side. I rarely think that there’s nowhere to go but up. You could always fall further. So, you should be glad you haven’t. This has helped me through some really dark times in my life. It’s kept me sane because I always think it could be worse.
Ambition – I grew up very poor and my family had little to nothing. I knew that I didn’t want to be that way forever. So, I’m doing, and have been doing, everything I can to make sure I don’t stay that way. I now consider my family to be comfortably middle class (if you still believe there’s a middle class in America). I work my butt off along with my family to continue to climb the social and economic ladders. It’s not impossible. It’s a struggle, but it’s doable. I wouldn’t let anyone tell me that I was stuck where I was.
  14. What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
NOTE: Some of my negatives were also positives because I see them as both.
Stubbornness – My stubbornness may help me reach my goals, but it doesn’t help me know when to give up. Therefore, I don’t. This hinders me because I will argue about anything. I’m too stubborn to admit when I’m wrong and even if I know I’m wrong I will continue to argue that I’m right.
Logic – I think logic and stubbornness go hand in hand. Sometimes being so logical makes me see issues and problems in black and white. So, I argue my point as being right because to me it’s simple, it’s logical, that means it’s right. There is no grey area.
Antisocial – I would really rather not deal with people. I will and I will do it well if I have to, but I’m much more comfortable by myself with a book or online. I don’t know why this is since I usually have a very bubbly personality, but that seems to be only with my family. With others it’s like I have a totally different personality.
Procrastinator – I always put things off until the last minute. “Why do today what you can do tomorrow”…or the day after…or an hour before the deadline? Because of that I’m always scrambling to get things completed.
Perfectionism – Perfectionism in hand with procrastination make for a very unhappy situation. I always have to do everything perfectly. If it’s not perfect then I’ll keep doing it until it is or until I’m too exhausted to do it again. This, I think, is bad because sometimes things just can’t be perfect and that ticks me off.
  15. Define in your own words the following key traits:

    • Courage:
Courage is standing up for what’s right even when everyone is against you. Courage is being okay with being different from others. I know there’s a quote that sums up how I feel about courage ->” Courage is not living without fear. Courage is being scared to death and doing the right thing anyway. “
    • Loyalty:
Standing by your friends and your beliefs no matter what other people say. You have to be strong not to submit to the views and wills of others. I think if you can do that for your friends and family then you are truly loyal.
    • Intelligence:
There's a difference between intelligence and wisdom. I think intelligence is just how book smart you are.
    • Ambition:
Ambition is having a clear goal in mind and working your hardest to reach that goal, no matter how unattainable it appears. It is the ability to say “watch me” when someone says you can’t do something. It’s doing everything you have to in order to fulfill your goals and dreams.

  16. Name: Jessica
  17. Age: 22
  18. Where did you find out about us?
I used to be a member, but I stopped shortly after I found out I was having a baby. After she was born she was taking up all my time and I barely had time to breath between feed and changing and such. Now, however, I seem to have enough down time that I can enjoy HiH again. I decided to get resorted just for fun to see if anything’s changed.
  19. Do you plan on being active in the communities once you are sorted?
Probably not 24/7 active, but I should be able to get on for an hour or so a day if I’m so inclined. I’ll probably use this comm as my unwinding period after I put my DD to bed and before I go to bed.
